Charming Catered Chalets in Meribel

Chalet Bartavelle has been a family run gourmet catered ski chalet in Meribel for 20 years, run by Jerry and Bettina, but we are sad to announce that season 23/24 was our last in Chalet Bartavelle. However fear not, this is not the end. As of season 24/25 we will be running exactly the same level of service but from one of 3 chalets operated by our partners here in Meribel, Summit Chalets. We have listed all 3 chalets here on our website so choose an available chalet from one of the 3 chalets and Jerry will operate the Bartavelle catered package from there.

Jerry is a chef with over 30 years experience, working in Australia, France and some of the best restaurants in London (Goring Hotel, Harvey Nichols 5th floor restaurant and Oxo tower Restaurant). Each season he will put together a mouth-watering menu for you to enjoy. Please see our catering page for more information, photo gallery and our sample menu.

Take the hassle out of your holiday, we are here to help arrange all your holiday needs, with some of the best discounts possible. From pre-ordered and chalet fitted skis and boots, advice on the best ski school for children and adults alike, ski passes waiting for you on our arrival, private airport transfers, nannies and anything else that will make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

Obviously once Jerry is booked up for a certain week in one of those chalets then he cannot offer his services in any of the others, however Summit Chalets does work with a team of independent chefs here in Meribel, so can offer a catering package with one of them, though it is slightly different. The package we offer is a little more extensive, as we include a transfer to the slopes and pick up at the end of the day every day, daily cleaning and canapés ect, which is not part of the standard catering package offered by Summit chalets. Please have a look at the below calendar to see if Jerry is free for the week you want, then check out the chalet pages to find a chalet that is also free for those dates.

We stayed here for 5 nights in the middle of March and picked the best week for the snow and weather! The quality of the chalet, the food and the hosts were outstanding and made the holiday.

Chalet Bartavelle is impeccable inside and out, with a cosy living area, log burning fire and a lovely dining area for you all to sit and eat together. The bedrooms were comfy, nice bathrooms. All rooms were cleaned everyday and it was always lovely and warm. There is also free WIFI in the chalet which was useful.

Now this brings me on to the food, WOW!!! The host Jerry has worked at some of the best restaurants in London and his food if just amazing! Every evening was a different, mouth-watering menu from duck, lamb, steak… a different starter, main & dessert every evening. Wine was included at meal times, hot and cold breakfast and beautiful home cooked cakes for afternoon tea, you really don’t need anything else after staying here and I’m sure even with the skiing I still went home a few pounds heavier 🙂

We chose to stay at Bartavelle based on what we had read on Tripadvisor, and none of the amazing comments could prepare us for how fantastic our stay there really was. Jerry and Bettina were so helpful, and the food was exceptional even our children couldn’t wait to see what was on the daily menu! The accomodation was spacious and stylish. The fact that the chalet was slightly out of Meribel centre was no problem at all as Jerry was available to offer us a lift right up to the slopes, and the bus is incredibily frequent and reliable. We would highly reccommend Chalet Bartavelle.

Our stay at Chalet Bartavelle was superb from start to finish. Even with a delayed outgoing flight, Jerry and Bettina were still there to welcome us and cook our meal. Jerry is an exceptional chef and really went out of his way to accommodate us – from transfers to resort to arranging additional lessons, to putting up with us staring at him whilst cooking every night! The food really is exquisite!! Afternoon tea after a day on the slopes was heaven. The chalet itself is decorated to a very high standard and all rooms, including the lounge area, were warm and inviting. I would personally say the mezzanine sleeping area is perfect for children / small people as the ceiling is rather low but still a way to accommodate for a larger group. The bus into Meribel was a 3-4 minute walk from the chalet and then a 10/15 minute journey – very easy, even with snowboard in tow. Jerry gave all the group advice and information for local attractions, for families and none skiers and those looking for after ski drinks! I can’t recommend this place enough – thank you for an extremely memorable week!

The opportunity to come out in April for a sneaky holiday for just my husband and myself was too good to miss. We are long standing devotees of all that Jerry and Bettina provide at Chalet Bartavelle and would recommend it to anyone (and often do!). Jerry has been telling us for years how good the skiing is in April but we’ve never had the courage, or time, to do it before now.
Maybe we were just lucky but we had the most fantastic week of skiing with blue skies every day and great snow. Admittedly you do have to stay quite high but this was not a problem. We chose southerly slopes in the morning and then northerly ones in the afternoon which meant that the snow was always in the best conditions. Having thought that we’d go to Val Thorens most days it turned out to be busy and not pleasant so we stuck to Meribel and mostly Courchevel where we had great fun and skiied from 9.15am to about 5pm every day.
Coming back to the delights of Chalet Bartavelle and the joys of Jerry’s cooking every day made it the perfect holiday (you can’t help but have them here). We’re so glad to have finally taken Jerry’s advice and are thinking about April 2015 and whether we can persuade the grandparents to have the children again!

The setting of the chalet is excellent, just a short drive from the slopes, the peaceful surroundings and alpine views give you the feeling of being in a smaller resort but with the benefit of the huge 3 valleys ski area on your doorstep.

It isn’t often that I find myself wanting to visit the same place twice, but I find myself already checking the diary for 2015!

Our 6th stay at Chalet Bartavelle which says it all really. A truly relaxing holiday (apart from the skiing!), with Jerry and Bettina providing a real home from home.
Jerry’s cooking was divine as usual. Breakfasts to set us up for the day, a delicious array of cakes on our return from the slopes and stunning food every night.
We were 4 adults and 6 children and had a brilliant holiday yet again. Thank you Jerry and Bettina for another triumph! Next year you’re doing a turn in Bartavelle’s Got Talent…..

We stayed at Chalet Bartavelle for 1 week this March, and believe me, this is a true gem! Jerry and Bettina have managed to combine outstanding food with attentive service to produce a genuinely unique experience. We found ourselves on the chairlift debating what new exciting dish Jerry was going to produce that evening, we were never disappointed!
